Finally, The 2009 Golden Fork Winners Revealed

Many of you have waited months to find out who won the prestigious and rare Golden Fork Awards from 2009.  Thanks for being so patient.  The interest in our little prize has grown tremendously over the past few years, and I’m very appreciative of that.

People voted from all over the country in a variety of categories including Best Song, Best (Overall) Band, Best New Band, Best New Song, and Best Cover Song.  As many of you know, in January we were blessed to get to meet Iron & Wine at a concert.  We had tabulated enough of the voting to know that he had solidified the win for Best Song for a track he did with Calexico, 16, Maybe Less.  We presented Sam with the first ever Golden Fork trophy.

Last week we presented the 2nd ever Golden Fork trophy to The Rocketboys for 2 wins, Best Band and Best New Song (We Are A Lighthouse). We presented the band with the trophy in front of a sellout crowd in Abilene.

The other awards include Best Appetizer Artist and Best New Band.  The winner of both of those awards is none other than Hannah and the Bloodlines.  Congratulations!

Aside from his Grammy win, we also have a Golden Fork award for John Mayer from his cover of Jimi Hendrix’ Bold As Love.

Thanks to everyone who participated in our voting for the award.  We look forward to another great selection of artists for this year’s Golden Fork.

Great Show At Monks

Wow, it was really cool getting to be a part of the Rocketboys show last night at Monks in Abilene.  Not only did I see a great show from the headliners, but the acts leading up to them were great as well.  I was introduced to a very talented guy out of Austin named Danny Malone.  His sound is really cool.  Check him out at www.dannymalone.com.

I also heard Words In Windows.  We featured them last week on The Appetizer, but I had not heard them live before.  They sound really tight and smooth.  I was really impressed. You can hear more of their stuff at http://www.facebook.com/wordsinwindows.

And I also was introduced to Michael Perkins, who runs the music set up at Monks on gig nights.  He also moonlights as a indie singer/songwriter named BlindedByBears.  Cool sound.  Check him out at http://www.myspace.com/blindedbybears.

The crowd in attendance was fantastic too.  It was great meeting a talking with so many people, many of whom were fans of the show.  Hopefully some new fans were added as well.

As you can see, we gave the 2nd Golden Fork Award from 2009 to The Rocketboys.  They won Best New Song (We Are A Lighthouse) and Best Band.  It was a real honor to be a part of a great night.
