New Music Monday

I’d like to thank a new friend named Lance Rivera, who is an avid listener to The Appetizer, for introducing me to Ramona Falls.  This is a project band from Menomena frontman Brent Knopf based in Portland, Oregon.  They have a few albums out, among them 2009′s Intuit, which contains this great song Russia.  Also, check out their video for this track on youtube.  It’s very creative.

We’ve added Ramona Falls to our Facebook page’s Favorite pages.  Be sure to check them out there.

Melange of Music

As I stated earlier in the week, I’ve been learning some new terminology concerning the food industry.  One word that’s new to me is melange.  I have to thank my wife for pointing this out to me, but melange is a creative way to say blend, collection, combination of different things, especially when applied to cuisine.

This week marks the first of 2 hours of Musical Melange, beginning with a platter of artists who are taking the sounds and styles of decades ago and revitalizing them in a modern way.  Among the artists bringing back the sounds of the 1950s and 60s are Mayer Hawthorne, Duffy, and Treasa Levasseur.  We’ll also showcase some American flavors of music that are growing in popularity across the sea (in the UK primarily) in a NY-based band called The Scissor Sisters, Vampire Weekend, Calexico, Meshell Ndegeocello, and Texas based arists Ryan Davis and Danny Malone.  All this and much more this weekend on The Appetizer.

Meshell Ndegeocello

The Appetizer airs Saturdays at 3p on 91.3 KVLU-1, Saturdays at 9P on 89.7 KACU, and Sundays at 7P on 90.5 KTRL
