Covers are on my mind, mostly because we’re doing them in our series on the radio show.
This week I’ll give some more of my opinion and insights into great covers, what separates a decent cover from a great one, and have some songs for you to hear to illustrate this further.
In the meantime, head over to our At The Table Page to hear a podcast that includes an interview I had with The Civil Wars‘ Joy Williams. The Civil Wars are a fantastic folk duo sweeping the country now with their unique style and reinterpretation of some classic tracks like Billie Jean, I Want You Back, and Disarm, as well as some amazing original tunes. This podcast involves me talking with Joy about their version of the Jackson 5 hit, how they broke down the song to its roots and removed the pop sound to reveal a blues song. It’s pretty powerful.
