Holy Halloween

Holy Halloween Batman!!!

Was that something Burt Ward ever said? I doubt it. But everything else was holy to that dude. Good thing Robin doesn’t talk that way anymore. Batman would be uber lame. Thankfully we now have Nolan’s The Dark Knight (and TDKR next year) as well as the very cool Batman: Arkham City as our current generation’s example of Batman. So glad I missed the ’60s.

But it is that time of year, when it’s fun to dress up in costumes and parade around as someone else. With it being the weekend and Halloweed actually on Monday, that extends the party time and the costume fun time. So here are some of my favorite costumed characters, complete with music for your audio and video dining pleasure. Enjoy!

I know it’s not Thriller, the video everyone plays this time of year. This is my all-time favorite Michael Jackson song and video. I dig the suit, the hat, and the moves.

Yeah that’s right, the frickin’ Ghostbusters. Totally 80s and totally awesome!!!

Moving from the 80s to the 90s, with one of the coolest theme songs of that era, and one of my all-time favorite cartoons, each character here is primo costume worthy.

Can’t mention the video game without showing how frickin’ awesome it looks.

Dress Up In…

I admit when I typed that headline, immediately the Madonna song Dress You Up In My Love popped into my head. Oh well, that’s not what I’m going to dive into.

It is Halloween though, a festive time of year where creativity really shines in ways that other holidays don’t. Costumes are one of my favorite things. I am a comic book fan after all. Speaking of, a month or so ago in Abilene during Artwalk, the theme was super-heroes and people were encouraged to come dressed in costumes. Pictured here is mine. I’m a Golden-Age Sandman, a character from the 50s who was a member of the Justice Society. Basically he was a sort of detective that would knock people out with gas from his gun. His gas-mask kept him from being inoculated. I did get a Russian gas mask from the Army Surplus store, and the gun I have shoots bubbles. I thought it was pretty nifty. Just need to find another place to utilize the costume.

This weekend we’ll have a gathering in Clyde that will be a family-friendly event called Hallelujah Fest. It’s mostly a thing for people with religious convictions about Halloween. While I don’t particularly share those feelings or fears about kids dressing up as ghosts and ghouls, I do understand their want for something less death-oriented for little kids. What we’ll be doing is giving people candy, and participating in a group Thriller dance. Hopefully someone will have pictures and video. I tried to learn the dance and it’s way beyond me. My wife however, dancing is in her blood, so she’ll be out there in great form.
This guy is great at details in teaching the dance-

Amon Amarth: Viking Death Metal=Always In Costume

Anyone interested in doing a costume party with musical guests? That’s what I’d like. How about a house concert where everyone dresses up in a costume and you can’t get into the show without some kind of disguise? Wouldn’t that be fun. The band or artist would also have to dress up. It could take place around Halloween or some other time of year. Either way, it’d be a great time. You know, now that I think about it, that’s probably a regular day for metal acts like GWAR or Amar Amarth. Hmmm, what if indie songwriters just tried it? If you know of a band or artist that’s doing this, let us know. We’d like to see pictures.
