Same Title Different Song Menu

This week’s show ties in to the upcoming annual Cover-Song Series. When I’m looking for cover songs, I look for stuff done in a different style than the original artist. That search has led me over the years to discover a lot of music that has the same titles, but are actually very different songs. So this time, our program is called Same Title Different Song. Music that might look like it could be a cover song based on the song title alone. Genres of music this hour include folk, punk rock, country, emo, blues, and much more. Enjoy!

Beyond The Surface Hr 2 Menu

After last week’s diving into flavors of music that go beyond the standard songwriting fair (ie love songs, heart-break songs, etc), it turns out that when I took more time and consideration to take in the plethora of subject matter, a lot of artists dive into deeper waters. There are exceptions (Aerosmith for one), but a lot of music that makes you think is out there in abundance. I wanted to share more of that this week in a second hour of songs that go Beyond The Surface in the genres of rock, folk, country, punk, soul, hip-hop and more. Enjoy!

Forgot About That Song!

Sometimes I want to listen to music and not have to put any effort in the song selection. I had my iTunes collection on the DJ setting, where the computer picks 50 or 75 tracks and plays them on an autopilot style setting. This is great for me while I’m doing paperwork or don’t want to have to put a mix together. My music library has zillions of excellent sounds so I don’t have to stop the mix and reset anything. But while I was listening and working I did stop several times because I’d hear something that would hit me. There would be a song that came on that I had forgotten about, a track from an album I love but I hadn’t heard in a long time. Somewhere in the work I was doing, I just started putting all these songs in a playlist together, songs that had been off my radar, and were now back on it. Green Day’s first album 1,039 Smoothed Out Slappy Hours has some of my favorite songs from them, Disappearing Boy probably tops there. It’s still one of my faves and I’d forgotten how fun and cool it is. But that was just one of the songs I’d been missing. The rest are on this week’s program. Enjoy!
