Best of 2012 (So Far) Menu

This week choice selections of the best music that’s come out so far this year that we’ve featured here on this program. Please note that this is not all of the great music that’s emerged in 2012, but since we’re only broadcasting once a week, that limits the amount of servings we can present. I would like to know what your top 3 or top 5 choices are from this week’s program. Leave a comment or tell me on FB or Twitter. Some of what will be heard was released in late 2011 and not featured here until 2012, so make note of that as well. Once again, two hours of great music. *Note, some of these songs were released prior to 2012 but were not featured on our program until this year.*

If you missed part of any of the show on the radio this week, listen again to 2 hours HERE.

Enjoy!

Some Favorites From Jan-July 2012

Like I said in the previous post, there’s been a lot of great music that’s emerged so far this year. And we still have 4 months more to go, how exciting! And to be honest, I haven’t even featured all the great stuff that’s come in just the past few weeks. For the next two weeks, I’ll be showcasing some of my favorites released thus far from a myriad of talented artists including Harper Blynn, Good Old War, Joe Pug, and a slew of others. What I want to do here is just present a spread of new musical flavor that you should certainly check out and pick up for yourself. If you feel I’ve left something off, please let me know.

My favorite tracks thus far include

Singer-songwriter Marketa Irglova-Go Back (from her album Anar)

Jazz The Gaddabouts-House On Fire (from their album Look Out Now!)

Ambient The Rocketboys-Bloodless (from the album Build Anyway)

Celtic Punk Flatfoot 56-I Believe It (from the album Toil)

Rock/Singer-Songwriter Bruce Springsteen’s entire Wrecking Ball album (key tracks include Land Of Hope and Dreams, American Land, My Depression, and Death Of My Hometown)

Reggae/Alternative Matisyahu-I Believe In Love (from the album Spark Seeker)

Indie Singer/Songwriter Lindsay Katt-Not A Mistake and Two Part Game (from the soon to be released Happy Fits Of Rage)

I’ll be serving all of these songs and a ton more this weekend. Don’t miss it.

Looking At 2012 Thus Far

Appetizer Artist Andrew Belle

It’s been a great year in music, I think you’ll agree. Whether we’re talking about a band or artist that’s prominent (Bruce Springsteen, Snow Patrol, etc), an emerging indie sensation (Joe Pug, Matisyahu, The Gaddabouts, etc), or a new face that’s unknown in parts of the country (Sister Sparrow & The Dirty Birds, Sharon Van Etten, etc), and especially Appetizer artists like Lindsay Katt, Andrew Belle, Mindy Smith, and Flatfoot 56, and some of this music hasn’t been released just yet but you’ve heard it already on our radio show. There’s been a lot of great new sounds that have come out this year. Coming up in our next program we’ll taste some of the best flavors that have been cooked up this year from the artists mentioned here and a slew of others.

Appetizer Artist (and author of our program’s theme song) Lindsay Katt

The tough thing though is that we haven’t even begun to sample all the great new stuff that’s been produced this year, at least not on The Appetizer. The reason for that is we only have a 59 minute weekly radio program (except for the stations carrying our 2 hour show and online) to sample. That’s not enough time to cover everything.

So, I’m asking you to help me showcase the great stuff I’m missed and not been able to feature on the show. This outlet (the blog) as well as Facebook and Twitter are great ways to present some new flavors to the spread and get music out there to people that don’t know about it. That’s part of what The Appetizer does each week.

Here are some videos of a few of the songs that we’ve aired. These are tracks I’m listening to on a regular basis, not just programming on the show for a one-time listening experience.  Enjoy!
