Indie Exploration Playlist

Indie music is something that is not only very trendy, but very misunderstood. Because many of the emerging Indie acts that are garnering national attention have music in the folk and singer-songwriter genres, many people mistake Indie for all music that sounds like folk or singer-songwriter.

This is quite far from the truth. The reality is that Indie = Independent from corporate labeling and corporate (ie BIG MONEY) music executives who have their own notion of what styles and sounds sell the best and try to get all of their contracted bands/artists to have this manufactured sound. All of this is done for one reason: Billboard placement and big revenue. The art and the creativity in the art is lost.

Indie truly equals freedom, which is why many once commercially successful artists are going the way of Indie and either leaving their major label deal to do music on their own, or signing with indie labels.

This is the exploration this week-What is Indie Music and what does it mean to be an Indie musician. Enjoy!
