It’s hard to believe that people this young could already possess this much ability, but from time to time it happens. This time it’s Lily and Madeleine Jurkiewicz of the sister duo Lily and Madeleine. Both in their late teens, these girls have been getting a lot of well deserved attention lately. Their song “In the Middle” has reached 365,000 views on YouTube, and it’s not hard to see why.
After listening to their albums Lily and Madeleine and The Weight of the Globe I’m left satisfied. These sisters harmonize beautifully within their own brand of folk pop. Some of the songs feature simple guitar playing, while others feature full bands and a wide assortment of instruments. To be fair what Lily and Madeleine are doing isn’t particularly unheard of, but it works very well. It is hard to escape the beauty of their graceful vocals.
While still charming, some of their songs like “I’ve Got Freedom” have been criticized for sounding more like a pandering and cheery commercial than music befitting the talent of these sisters. On the other hand, songs like “Come to Me”, “Goodbye to Anyone” and a whole slew of others stand out for their exceptional delivery. When these girls shine, it’s brilliant. With their outstanding vocals, well written lyrics and the skillful backing of a variety of instruments, it’s hard to not enjoy.
Lily and Madeleine are definitely worth listening to, and I eagerly await whatever they do next. You can listen to (and purchase) their albums in full here. You can get to know them a bit better at their website.
