Can you imagine working together with a small group of people from all over the world to make a project, but without seeing everyone involved? Of course you can, we have the Internet and all sorts of technology. But just because it’s possible doesn’t mean it’s easy, and certainly doesn’t mean it always works. For the 5 members of indie band WALLA, their story involves multiple styles of music, locations and experience combined with a common passion: creating new music. Using the technology available to them, they pooled their talents to create a strong new musical group.
You can feel the diversity in each song, with hints of samba, rock, club, and pop in the opening song No Time from their Nature EP. The movements remain upbeat, keeping the fun-spirit of indie pop music. Representing a new example of unity, WALLA’s band members come from Mexico, Italy, Korea, Indonesia and Brazil. Their brand of tunes is catchy, uplifting, and full of movement. Each song is a standout including Nature (with a sweet style combining 50s bee-bop with dance-hall pop). Crazy World is reminiscent of a Tears For Fears meets modern pop sound. Neon Love closes the 15-minute EP with a synth-built indie rock beat in a style ala old-school The Killers. This quintet of musicians are garnering praise and multiple music awards. And they’re looking to do much more in 2014.
