Indie music isn’t a genre of category of style. It’s a classification that separates bands and musicians who are doing things either on their own or with a small label and management. Major record labels provide a lot of marketing, promotions, booking, and other services for the artists on their docket. Indie and unsigned artists don’t have that luxury, which makes them an underdog in the music industry.
On occasion, there are artists and musicians who defy the odds and make it big without the help of a major label, usually before eventually signing to one (Iron & Wine and The Civil Wars for example).
Music as a business is a hard market. There are tons of other artists out there, many with great talent and people supporting them. Add to the competition are the incredible amount of channels and options just for listening to music, from Spotify to Apple Music to Tidal to Indie and Public Radio (our personal choice of the selections). With all of this in mind, this is why I’ve worked to support the music and careers of indie and unsigned musicians for the past 12 years through The Appetizer Radio Show.
Community is at the core of our platform, which is why your participation in our Indiegogo Campaign is so vital. We’re not just building an app. We’re creating a new portal to connect you directly with great and emerging music underdogs so that with our collective support they can overcome the odds and have a successful career.
We need you. Right now. Join us in our community of supporters for the underdogs of music by contributing to our campaign. Any contribution makes you a part of the community, even $1. Your contribution will give you the App, and direct access to exclusive content we’ve had with great indie artists over the years including podcasts, videos, interview sessions and more that aren’t available on our website. Our campaign has just a little bit of time left, so help push us over the top.
