Covers Special 2017 Playlist & Streaming Player

Wow, it’s been at least 6 years since I first kicked off this thing about dedicating a whole week to great cover songs. Why keep that going?

Well, like I say in this week’s episode, some anniversaries end. And some need to keep going. You’ll find a story within a story here on this year’s special. If you’ve been listening to our episodes over the past few months, there’s an ongoing narrative that I’ve been processing through, and it’s a little deeper than just the standard “new indie music” route you’re accustomed to.

The reality for us in the music curation industry is that music isn’t just an interest or passion. It’s a part of us. I believe it’s a part of you too. The songs we celebrate, the artists behind them, and the albums themselves reflect our own story. When another artist reinterprets those stories in a different way, it makes those stories and those songs connect with us even more.

That’s what I focus on this year with some different takes on a style that we don’t do much here: throwback 90s hip hop and R&B (hour 2). There’s also a tribute to the late Chris Cornell early in the first hour and a ton of great new covers I’ve unearthed over the past several months. It’s all a part of our Covers Special 2017 celebration. Enjoy!
