Lindsay Katt and D Grant await taking the stage on Sept 28th, 2013
After the series I did to start January with My Heart (Part 1 and Part 2) that allowed me to share a good bit of my personal story through songs, I felt inspired to keep that train rolling. Music is more than just sound. It’s what Bruce Springsteen describes in his autobiography Born To Run. He said “I’d already experienced enough personal chaos to not go in search of the unknown. Music was going to get me as high as I needed to go.”

So for me, music has been the companion through ups and downs and countless trials that nothing else has been as relevant to. And I think this is true for you as well. You probably have a countless series of artists and albums that have accompanied you through the best and worst times of your life. Those albums and songs are a part of your story. They’re like your blood and DNA. Intertwined with you in a ways you can’t describe.

I picked A Fine Frenzy because of the way they interweave searching with a love story. That was mine years ago which culminated in a beautiful love. Lily Hiatt describes the breakdown of relationships using metaphors of distance and disease.

Holly Arrowsmith (who sounds more like a folk artist than an indie pop one) tells a beautiful allegory of love being a source of healing and restoration (on Love Will Be A River) that syncs so much with my heart.

Leona Naess captures the heartbreak and tragedy of so much in Ballerina while also bringing a little hope back in How Sweet.

My good friend Lindsay Katt has far too many songs to choose from so I elected these two to describe the moments of searching for true love and also feeling dejected from society because of narrow-minded beliefs.

Feist makes you want to dance while also stopping to not let a single sweet word slip away, captured well in both tracks featured.

Florence + The Machine is poignant, brilliant, beautiful, and tragic all at once.

Oh Wonderhits a few pieces of the emotional roller coaster that all relationships go through.

Trevor Hall‘s new music fits perfectly into the theme as it pertains to searching for love that transcends romance and finding healing and wholeness in the process.

That’s the tip of the iceberg.

Anyhow, I’m going to continue using songs and albums to illustrate pieces of my story. Broken down into genres of music, this go around is my story through Indie Pop. Enjoy!
